Wales must target ‘special relationship’ with the USA - Eluned Parrott AM

April 5, 2012 1:09 PM

Responding to new UK export statistics, Shadow Welsh Liberal Democrat Business and Enterprise Minister Eluned Parrott AM said: "We should be positive about the fact that Welsh exports have risen by 4% on the corresponding quarter in 2010. However, this is set against an 8.1% rise across the UK.

"The importance of the USA is emphasised by the figures which show that the USA is Wales's largest export market. Amazingly, 81% of Welsh exports to the USA are from the energy or engineering sectors.

"The Welsh Government's poor attempt at a manufacturing strategy must be dealt with as a matter of priority along with the development of an aviation strategy. These actions can help give promote stronger links to the USA."
